Pelco

Overview
Pelco, founded in Fresno, California, is one of the most recognized legacy brands in video surveillance, known for its high-durability fixed and PTZ cameras designed for harsh environmental conditions including critical infrastructure, oil and gas sites, airports, and manufacturing plants. Pelco cameras are built on an open platform, conformant with ONVIF profiles S, G, T, and M, allowing integration with virtually any third-party VMS. The company's portfolio includes ruggedized specialty cameras for hazardous locations, AI-enabled cameras with object detection and facial recognition analytics, and cloud-connected models offering hybrid deployments. Pelco serves global enterprise customers and is owned by Motorola Solutions (through Avigilon's parent), continuing to operate as an independent brand focused on field-tested durability and ecosystem interoperability.
Pelco is one of the oldest names in video surveillance; its Spectra PTZ domes and matrix systems defined an era of analog CCTV, and the brand retains enormous installed-base recognition. After passing through Schneider Electric and private equity, Pelco landed inside Motorola Solutions in 2020, where it now sits alongside Avigilon in the video portfolio, with Sarix cameras and the VideoXpert VMS as its modern line.
For Canadian buyers the brand question is positioning: within Motorola, Pelco serves accounts and form factors the Avigilon line does not, and legacy Pelco estates (of which Canada has many, in transit, casinos, and utilities) get a maintained upgrade path rather than a forced migration. Anyone maintaining older Spectra or Endura infrastructure should be planning that transition deliberately rather than riding the hardware to failure.
