Two server announcements in the same week frame where video infrastructure is heading: HPE pushed new ProLiant Gen12 systems toward the rugged edge, and Supermicro stacked core counts at the centre.
HPE: the edge gets serious hardware
HPE expanded its ProLiant edge portfolio with a new EL2000 chassis and EL220 and EL240 Gen12 servers, plus an updated DL145, aimed at AI inference in demanding environments such as defence, manufacturing, and telecom. That is precisely the profile of on-site video analytics and recording: dusty electrical rooms, wide temperature swings, and no data-centre comforts. HPE also says these Gen12 servers are the first to meet NIST post-quantum security requirements, a line that will start appearing in federal procurement language sooner than most vendors are ready for.
At the other end, the ProLiant Compute DL394 Gen12 is built on the NVIDIA Vera CPU and purpose-built for agentic AI and data-processing workloads, with availability targeted for fall 2026.
Supermicro: density at the core
Supermicro launched twelve X14 platforms across its Hyper, SuperBlade, FlexTwin, and GrandTwin families for Intel’s Xeon 6+ processors, supporting up to 576 efficiency cores per server, double the prior generation. SuperBlade fits ten compute nodes in 6U, and the company’s Petascale all-flash storage now scales to 4.8PB per system.

For security architects the split is useful: inference and recording move toward hardened edge boxes, while the core consolidates onto fewer, denser machines. Both trends reduce the number of mid-tier servers sitting in telecom closets, which has always been where video infrastructure went to be forgotten.
