A focused, instructor-led program that teaches the practical skills to design, install, configure, commission, and troubleshoot the three systems every security technician works with: access control, video surveillance, and intrusion.
It is taught by people who do the work. The emphasis is not on passing a test, it is on doing the job properly the first time, so the system still runs in year four and the client is not calling you back for avoidable faults.
What you will be able to do
- Design and lay out access control, CCTV, and intrusion for a real site.
- Terminate, wire, and power devices correctly and safely.
- Configure controllers, cameras, recorders, and alarm panels.
- Commission, test, document, and hand over a working system.
- Troubleshoot the faults that actually come up on the job.
Curriculum
Week 1 — Foundations, access control, intrusion
Foundations
- Low-voltage fundamentals, power, and cabling done cleanly
- Site safety and working practices
- The networking basics every security tech now needs
Access control
- Readers, controllers, and credential types
- Door hardware, electric locks, and request-to-exit
- Wiring, power, and fail-safe vs fail-secure
- Controller configuration and door programming
Intrusion & alarms
- Panels, keypads, and zones
- Sensors: motion, door contacts, glass break, and placement
- Programming, partitions, and user codes
- Communication paths and cutting false alarms
Week 2 — Video, networking, commissioning
Video surveillance
- IP cameras, sensors, lenses, and field of view
- PoE, recorders (NVR/VMS), storage, and bandwidth
- Camera placement that actually covers the scene
- Retention, exports, and getting usable footage
Networking for security
- IP addressing and subnets without guesswork
- VLANs, switches, and keeping cameras off the business network
- PoE budgets and switch selection
Commissioning & handover
- Testing and verifying every device
- Labeling, as-builts, and documentation
- Structured troubleshooting
- A clean handover the client can live with
