Overview

Brivo, headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland, is a pioneer and leading provider of cloud-based access control offering a unified Security Suite that integrates access control, video intelligence, visitor management, and intrusion monitoring in a single cloud platform for organizations ranging from 10 to 10,000 locations. The Brivo Access platform provides centralized management with real-time access event data, granular permission management, and deep integrations with workforce identity platforms including Active Directory, Google Workspace, Okta, and property management systems. Brivo's open API and hardware-agnostic design support door readers from HID, Allegion, and other vendors, while its mobile application enables frictionless mobile credential entry. As one of the earliest purpose-built cloud access control platforms (founded 1999), Brivo has accumulated decades of cloud infrastructure expertise and serves enterprise, multi-family residential, commercial real estate, and education customers across North America including Canada.

Brivo effectively invented cloud access control in 2001 and remains the category’s reference platform: panels on the door, everything else in the cloud, managed through a browser or phone. The platform has grown into mobile credentials, visitor management, video integration, and an API surface that property-technology platforms build on, with multifamily and commercial real estate as particular strongholds.

For Canadian integrators, Brivo is the fast path to recurring monthly revenue on access control, and for end users it removes the server, the software maintenance, and most of the IT burden. The trade-offs are the standard cloud ones: subscription cost over time, internet dependency for management (doors keep working offline), and data residency questions that security-conscious Canadian buyers should ask directly, since footage and credential data may process outside Canada depending on configuration.
